Founded in 1891, the University of La Verne is a Carnegie Doctoral Intensive university, enrolling more than 8,000 students (6,000 FTE). The University’s thirty-six acre central campus is located in La Verne, California, approximately 30 miles east of Los Angeles, beneath the San Gabriel Mountains in the Inland Valley, an area of exceptional economic growth, diversity, and cultural opportunities. THE UNIVERSITY OF LA VERNE, COLLEGE OF LAW invites applications for one or more full-time, tenure-track positions beginning in the 2009-2010 academic year. Areas of interest include property, constitutional law, criminal law, criminal procedure, evidence and legal writing. Position # 2939 – Assistant, Associate OR Full Professor of Law - Director of Legal Analysis and Writing

The University of La Verne invites applications, for an Assistant Professor of Education in the School Counseling Program.  This would be a full time, tenure track appointment beginning September 01, 2009.  Duties include teaching six courses per year within the School Counseling Program; student advisement; department/college/university committee involvement; collaborating with other program faculty in the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing and National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education on accreditation process; professional organization involvement including attending conferences, making presentations and ongoing research agenda.

The University of La Verne’s Doctoral Program in Organizational Leadership invites applications for a full-time, tenure track faculty position for Fall 2008.  We seek dynamic, creative individuals committed

to quality teaching, student success, and ongoing program improvement.  Salary is commensurate with experience, degree, and internal equity.  The Doctoral Program in Organizational Leadership,

accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, is one of the most successful programs of its kind in the Western United States.  Since 1976 it has prepared leaders in a range of fields

including K-12 education, higher education, health, governmental service, non profits, the military, and business and industry.  The core competencies upon which this innovative program is

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with colleagues to

·         Design, teach and facilitate small and large group experiential learning activities online and face-to-face

·         Design and deliver state-of-the-art blended curriculum and online content

·         Prepare interactive presentations for asynchronous, online lectures and discussions

·         Lead and participate in online synchronous Web-based seminars

·         Teach and coach students in advanced academic inquiry and research

·         Participate in dissertation advisement and serve on dissertation committees

·         Make scholarly contributions to the doctoral and university community

·         Travel as required to campus and other locations to deliver programs, attend faculty and other meetings, participate in university related activities and two weeks of research seminar.

 

Qualifications: 

The successful candidate will:

·         Possess knowledge, skills, and experiences to fulfill the responsibilities and requirements listed above.

·         Possess a doctoral degree in education or related field from an accredited institution

·         Have knowledge of pertinent theory and practice as they relate to program content

·         Demonstrate excellent communication skills, including face to face, via computer, in small learning groups, and in large group settings

·         Be skilled in making effective presentations and facilitating interactive training sessions in large groups and online

·         Possess effective interpersonal skills – able to deal with differing personalities and diverse populations in close working relationships

Position #2942- Assistant/Associate Professor – Clinical Faculty, School of Counseling

The University of La Verne invites applications for a Clinical Faculty Member of Education in the Professional School Counseling Program.  This would be a full-time, non-tenure track appointment beginning September 01, 2008 or as soon as possible.  Responsibilities include teaching four courses per year within the School Counseling Program; student admission and advisement; department/college committee involvement; collaborating with other program faculty in the state-wide school counseling program and professional organization involvement.  Additional administrative responsibilities include: interviewing and supervising part-time faculty in the region; coordinating with community schools and agencies; and collaborating with the Regional Campus Administration coordinators.

Position #2947 - Assistant or Associate Professor, Psychology. The University of La Verne’s Department of Psychology invites applications for one tenure-track, faculty position at the assistant or associate professor level in Psychology. This is a 10 month appointment, beginning September 1, 2009.  Responsibilities include:  teaching six courses a year equivalent to no less than 18 semester hours in the APA-accredited Psy.D. Clinical-Community Program, the masters counseling programs, and the undergraduate level; maintaining an independent research program; advising undergraduates and mentoring graduate students; supervising doctoral, masters, and undergraduate research; and participating in departmental and university governance activities.  Qualifications include:  a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from an APA-accredited doctoral program; completion of an APA/APPIC-accredited internship; licensure in CA or the ability to be licensed within 3 years of initial employment; record of excellence in teaching and training with multicultural populations and in incorporating multicultural issues in courses; familiarity with the ecological theoretical model; a demonstrated history of scholarly work and research and the potential to continue such work; a demonstrated commitment to quality teaching and scholarship in a comprehensive liberal arts university with a very diverse student body.  Expertise in assessment, child/adolescent and/or forensic psychology preferred, although candidates with other areas of expertise will be considered.    The hiring range for this position is dependent upon qualifications and departmental equity. Position # 2674 and #2675 - Assistant Professor, Chemistry Department

Position #2954 - University Librarian, Wilson Library

The University of La Verne invites applications for University Librarian, an administrative position, with faculty rank, reporting directly to the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs. La Verne is a Doctoral/Research University that enrolls roughly 7,000 students in four colleges; approximately half of the students study at one of the nine regional campuses or online. The Wilson Library provides access to 215,000 volumes and more than 34,500 periodicals in electronic and print version. It also houses special and archival collections. The library uses the Innovative Interfaces Integrated library system. The library staff currently includes seven librarians and six support staff.

 

The responsibilities of this position include serving and collaborating with the academic deans to achieve the mission of the university; providing strategic leadership, in a team-based environment, for the coordination and management of library services in support of on-campus, off-campus, and online; serving as the primary advocate for the library; working closely with all academic programs to support faculty research, teaching, service, and student learning; providing leadership in planning, budgeting, and the integration of emerging trends; fostering an organizational culture based upon diversity, respect, service, teamwork, professional growth, responsibility, and accountability; overseeing the assessment of library programs and services; maintaining strong collaborative relationships within the library, university, library profession, and surrounding communities.

 

The position requires a master's degree in Library Science from an institution accredited by the American Library Association. An additional master's degree in an academic subject or an earned doctorate degree is preferred.  At least three years of administrative or team-based leadership experience in academic libraries is required. In addition, the candidate will be expected to understand and have experience in delivery of on-campus, off-campus and online library services; have knowledge and experience in working effectively with librarians and library staff in a team-based environment; have knowledge and experience in information literacy program delivery for both undergraduate and graduate, and on-campus, off-campus and online programs; demonstrate success in building coalitions for budgetary support, effective fundraising, and grant writing; possess donor relations skills; possess a collegial attitude toward the needs of students, faculty, and staff in a complex and diverse university setting; have a commitment to professional excellence through ongoing research, publication, and/or leadership in professional organizations; have excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a commitment to team-building and collaborative initiatives; and possess effective decision-making and organizational skills.
