When you register, you will have your picture taken for a student identification card in the Registrar's Office. This card, when accompanied by the appropriate stickers, allows you to take advantage of a number of campus activities. If you live on campus or have bought a meal plan, it is your dining card. It is needed for some of the free meals offered to students and it is always your library card. It is an identification (ID) at some off campus events where student discounts are offered. For example movie theaters and art shows.
You may also obtain a California state identification card at the DMV office. Information on how to obtain an ID carde is provided at: http://www.dmv.ca.gov/dl/dl_info.htm#idcard
If you have an internship or will be employed at some time during your stay in the U.S., or if you wish to obtain a driver's license, you will need to obtain a Social Security card.
