- To align the teacher preparation standards with the student standards in each of the content areas
- To create a linkage between all phases of teacher preparation (multiple subject preparation, teacher training, and induction)
Terminology
- SB2042 - State Legislature requiring program changes in multiple subject programs and teacher preparation programs
- MSAT - Exam for students who do not receive their bachelors degree from a state approved multiple subject program
- BTSA - Beginning Teacher Support Assessment
- CSET - California Subject Examinations for Teachers
- RICA - Reading Instruction Competency Assessment
- CBEST - California Basic Educational Skills Test
- Level I Technology - state approved computer course for educators required to obtain a preliminary credential.
- Level II Technology - state approved computer course or program study for educators to be completed prior to obtaining professional clear credential.
- Blended Program - A program which combines the multiple subject program with the teacher preparation program into one program (most state schools moving to this model)
- TPA - Teacher Performance Assessment, requirements for the teacher preparation programs. Some of the TPA's will be reflected in the new multiple subject programs.
- CCTC - California Commission on Teacher Credentialing Link between the State Legislature and the Educational Field (Universities, public schools, district and county education offices)
- Multiple Subject Program - A program for students interested in teaching k-8 grades. The University of La Verne's Multiple Subject Program is called Liberal Studies (formerly Diversified)
- Assessment Team - A group of individuals representing the CCTC that come and assess your program to see if program standards are being implemented
- Common Standards - All state approved programs must meet these standards across programs in the same way (multiple subject, teacher education, counseling, reading, etc.)
- Program Standards - Standards common to the three phases of the teacher credentialing program: multiple subject program, teacher education, and induction
- Induction - The final phase of the credentialing phase. This phase occurs during the first year in the classroom and is overseen collaboratively with school districts and universities
