Library Instruction
Wilson Library is committed to teaching students make full, self-sufficient, and sophisticated use of information resources. The library instruction
program is based on the belief that to perform to the best of their ability in university courses, as well as independent intellectual inquiry, students
must be able to make informed and judicious use of the library and its resources.
Library faculty work closely with teaching faculty to develop appropriate course-related instruction in the use of library and information resources. Linking Resources
Faculty can link electronic books or chapters from electronic books, full-text articles available in any of the library databases for their courses in Blackboard or other online reading lists. Please click here for instructions.
Reserves
Books, pamphlets, and or copies of articles can be placed on semester long or permenent reserve to ensure that recommended and assigned readings are readily available for students. The library requires a minimum of 3 days for processing of materials before they are available for student use. To place materials on reserve contact Circulation Services at x4301.
My Library
ULV Libraries' online catalog (LEOpac) lists materials available at Wilson Library and the Law Library. Faculty can use MyLibrary to see when library materials are due, renew materials, check the status of their LINK+ requests, search the catalog from their account, save favorite searches for future use and have the library email the latest additions based on their search criteria, etc. Find out more about MyLibrary.
Collection Development/Book Ordering
The teaching faculty shares responsibility with the library faculty for building a library collection which meets the curricular needs of the university. Recommendations will be reviewed and ordered based on availability of funds for the fiscal year. Most book orders are placed between July 1 and February 15 so that orders can be completed prior to the fiscal audit. When funds permit the addition of new journal titles those orders are placed in June to begin January 1. Faculty Study Rooms
The Wilson Library provides a limited number of small locked study rooms to facilitate research and publication projects requiring extensive use of library. Please click here for more information.
Faculty Loan Policies
For information regarding loan polices applicable to faculty, please click on circulation. Or you can contact Circulation Services at, x4301. A valid University ID is required for borrowing library materials.
Interlibrary Loan
Materials from other libraries can be borrowed for faculty through LEODelivers. For more information, please visit the LEODelivers information page, or contact the Resource Sharing office at x4301 or by email : interlib@ulv.edu
Photocopying Services
Departments can purchase cards from the Office of Information Technology. Copy cards for personal use can be purchased from the vending machine for 50 cents at the Library. Copies are 10 cents each.
Research Paper Consultation
Students can make an appointment at the Research Desk to discuss their assignment with a librarian. The librarian will help students identify appropriate sources for their paper and how to evaluate and use them. Research Assistance
Faculty members are encouraged to call on the Librarian on duty at the Research Desk, at x4305/4306, for assistance with any reference needs
