Mission and Vision
Mission Statement
The mission of the Office of Multicultural Services, Division of Student Affairs at the University of La Verne is to foster an environment of exploration and consciousness raising, celebration, and valuing of all our diversity that fully engages our learning community, with an emphasis on our academic, social, spiritual, and cultural realities.
Vision Statement
Creating, sustaining, and nurturing a dynamic 21st Century inclusive life-long learning community
The mission will be carried out by
- Supporting students and the university community by encouraging self discovery and exploration of the relevance of diversity in all its forms to one's life and the life of the community.
- Providing experiences and knowledge to journey toward becoming culturally proficient.
- Coaching students and others working with issues of diversity.
- Advocating for equity of inclusion and participation at all levels.
- Challenge assumptions in order to raise consciousness, and acknowledging that learning is a life-long process.
- Cultivate relationships and collaborative partnerships with surrounding community, schools and agencies.
- Cultivate relationships with parents of students, in particular the parents of students involved with the cultural club.
Programs and Services
- Act as ombudsperson for diversity issues impacting students and campus community
- Direct, advise, mentor, and support cultural clubs on campus
- Direct and support Black and Latino Alumni Associations
- Direct and sponsor the cultural graduation celebrations
- Direct and facilitate the Cultural Club Leadership Collaborative
- Manage the Student Affairs Cultural Programming Collaborative
- Sponsor students to attend leadership forums and conferences
- Provide diversity training/workshops to the university campus
- Represent and advocate for diversity on various university committees
- Logistical support for cultural clubs and organizations
- Cultural Resource Library (books, videos, magazines, journals, etc.)
