1. Does New Student and Parent Orientation cost anything?

The cost of New Student and Parent Orientation is already included in fees you pay to the University of La Verne, so there is no additional cost to you when you come to the program. Simply select one of the programs to attend by registering online.

2. Is New Student and Parent Orientation just for freshmen?

Yes, But there is a specific Transfer Orientation on August 27th for all transfer students to attend.

3. Is Orientation mandatory?

We highly encourage you and your family's participation in New Student and Parent Orientation because it is the only time that you will receive so much vital information about the University of La Verne in one single program. The information covered at Orientation includes but is not limited to: specific Academic Advising related to your major/interests; fall classes registration; programs, services and resource information; financial aid and student employment; as well as general information related to support services on campus.

4. When do I register for classes?

Students will be able to register for classes at Orientation and it is therefore imperative that they attend the program. If you have specific questions about your major or the registration process, contact the Academic Support and Retention Services Office at 909.593.3511 x4245.

5. How do I know what classes to take?

Once you have registered for your Orientation, indicated your entering major, and completed your placement examinations, you will meet with an academic advisor in your area during Orientation. Transfer students must schedule an appointment to meet with an advisor with Academic Support and Retention Services Office at 909.593.3511 x4245.

6. Can I attend only a portion of Orientation?

No, freshman must attend the entire day of one of the four specific full day programs, and transfers must stay for the entirety of the transfer orientation on Aug. 27th. This is because there are important sessions throughout the day that are imperative to your success and preparation for the start of the school year. Our staff can help you decide which program fits your needs best. We know that this can all be confusing - so let us know if you have questions.

7. Who can come to Parent's Orientation?

Parents, grandparents, mentors, legal guardians, or basically anyone who plays the role of "parent" in the new student's life is welcome to attend. We can only accommodate 2 or 3 people per new student, so please limit the size of your group.

8. There are four New Student Orientation Sessions offered for this year's program. Which one should I select?

Attend the session which best fits with your schedule. Make sure to arrive early and plan on staying until the end of the program.

9. Where and how do I register for Orientation?

You may register online Here. Of course, if you are having any difficulties or conflicts, please contact the Registrars Office at (909) 593-3511 x4001. They will be happy to assist you.

10. How do I schedule my placement testing?

Placement testing must be completed prior to attending Orientation. You can schedule your placement testing by contacting the Learning Enhancement Center at 909.593.3511 x4045. After July 2nd, please call extension 4342. Click here to see testing dates.

11. When can I move into the Residence Halls?

New students to ULV will be able to move into the residence halls on Friday, August 29 starting at 1pm. (Returning ULV students will be moving in on Monday, September 1). If you have questions, contact the Housing and Residential Life staff at 909.593.3511 x4052.

12. I am not familiar with the campus, is there a map you can refer me to?

13. Is Orientation different for International Students?

International students will receive an e-mail with information about the International Student Orientation prior to their arrival. For specific information related to International Student Orientation contact the International and Study Abroad Center at 909.593.3511 x4331. ISAC Website

14. Do transfer students have their own Orientation?

Yes, Transfer students have their own orientation scheduled on August 27th.

15. What events are planned for my parents?

Our staff truly believes that the transition of students to our campus is made more successful if the parents and family are part of the process from the start. The parent program is therefore specifically geared to address the needs and concerns of parents, providing them with information to facilitate the successful transition of their student attending ULV. The Parent program takes place within each of the Orientation sessions. Parents will have the opportunity to meet ULV faculty, staff and students, ask questions, and become familiar with ULV programs, services and resources and connect within our ULV community.

16. We are from out of town, where do we stay during Orientation?
