Summer Teachers' Workshops
Space Telescope Educational Collaboration introducing Teachers to Research in Astronomy.
The Physics Program at the University of La Verne (ULV), in collaboration with Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), offered inquiry-based workshops to secondary teachers of physics and physical science during the summers of 2003 and 2004. The primary goal of these full-day, week-long workshops was to enable teachers to learn more about Hubble Space Telescope (HST) research and how they might incorporate it into their curricula. Daily activities included:
- Lectures by JPL scientists active in HST research,
- Units on extra-solar planets, the interstellar medium, star death, and planetary nebulae,
- Topics linked to the latest California State Science Education Standards
- Hands-on classroom projects involving HST data,
- A tour of JPL, and
- A nighttime star observing session.
This website is being maintained as a resource both for participants and for teachers who were unable to attend the workshop.
