Position Announcement for Clinical MFT Trainees

The total number of positions available will be approximately three MFT trainees.

Psychological Services Offered:
The psychological counseling services offered at the center include individual, couple, family, and group counseling as well as crisis intervention services. Workshops, consultation and outreach services are also offered. The clients at the Center consist of ULV undergraduates, graduate students, staff and their families.

Training/Supervision:
Trainees receive a minimum of one hour of individual supervision and two hours of group supervision weekly by licensed psychologists and marriage and family therapists. Trainees will also participate in a seminar in community psychology. This training position meets all BBS requirements for the experience requirement for the MFT license.

Eligibility:
Applicants must be enrolled in the ULV Marriage, Family and Child Therapy Masters degree program and concurrently be enrolled in, or have completed, PSY 580/1 (Supervised Fieldwork). Previous counseling experience, particularly with college-age population, is desirable, but not necessary.

Duration of Position:
The position begins June 1st of the current year and ends May 31st of the next year. Counseling services are only offered to clients during the school year, which begins in early September and ends in mid May. There are breaks during University holiday times (in November, December, and in the spring). Training and orientation sessions are scheduled during the summer, usually after the end of the spring semester and during the week prior to the beginning of the fall semester. These training sessions are mandatory.

Hours:
A minimum of twenty hours per week, including client hours, supervision, training and paper work is what is expected. Typical caseloads are 8 to 10 client hours, per week. These hours may increase slightly during peak utilization periods.

Stipend:
A tuition remission stipend is offered. This stipend includes any classes taken during the term of the position (June 1st to May 31st), which means that it applies to classes taken during the summer, fall semester, interterm and spring semester. The size of the stipend is $4,000.

Selection Process:
