The total number of positions available will be approximately five doctoral trainees.
Duties and Responsibilities
Psychology trainees at the University Counseling Center provide direct services in the form of: (a) individual, group, couple and family psychotherapy, as well as crisis intervention services, (b) psychological assessment and testing, and (c) program development, implementation and evaluation. Trainees will also provide indirect services in the form of needs assessment, consultation and outreach.
Training/Supervision:
Psychology trainees receive a minimum of one hour of individual supervision, two hours of group supervision, and one hour of training seminars in testing and community psychology each week. Supervision and training is provided by appropriately licensed mental health professionals or by postdoctoral fellows. Training meets all Board of Psychology (BOP) requirements for the experience requirement for the psychology license.
Eligibility:
Applicants must be enrolled in the ULV Psy.D. Program in clinical-community psychology and have completed one year of course work. Previous counseling experience, particularly with college-age population, is desirable but not necessary.
Duration of Position:
The position begins June 1st of the current year and ends May 31st of the next year. Counseling services are only offered to clients during the school year, which begins near the beginning of September and ends in late May. There are breaks during University holiday times (in November, December, and in the spring). Training and orientation sessions are scheduled during the summer, usually after the end of the spring semester and during the week prior to the beginning of the fall semester. These training sessions are mandatory.
Hours:
A minimum of twenty hours per week, including client hours, supervision, training and paper work. Typical caseloads for this twenty-hour position are 8 to 10 client hours per week. These hours may raise somewhat during peak utilization periods.
Stipend:
A tuition remission stipend is offered. This stipend includes any classes taken during the term of the position (June 1st to May 31st), which means that it applies to classes taken during the summer, fall semester, interterm and spring semester. The size of the stipend for 20 hours per week is $4,000.

Selection Process:
Everyone who submits an application will be scheduled for an interview at the Center. Interviews will begin after the second Monday in March and continue until all positions are filled. Applicants will be notified of their selection on the date of notification, which is the second Monday of April, between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
