She is also Director of Research for the Institute for Multicultural Research and Campus Diversity. Her area of specialization and research are stress and Latinas, multicultural counseling and multiracial feminism.

Bui, Ngoc, Ph.D., (2002)

Associate Professor of Psychology and Faculty Advisor for the ULV Chapter of Psi Chi, The National Honor Society in Psychology, received her M.A. and Ph.D. in Social Psychology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1997 and 2000 respectively. Her areas of interest and research are social perception, acculturation, Asian American identity formation, and effectiveness of technology and teaching.

Gamst, Glenn, Ph.D., (1992)

Professor of Psychology and Chair of the Department of Psychology, received his Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology from the University of Arkansas in 1979. His current research focus is on the effects of multicultural variables like client-therapist ethnic match, client acculturation and ethnic identity and provider cultural competence on clinical outcomes for community mental health clients. Additional areas of specialization and research include memory and cognition, conversational memory, and univariate and multivariate statistical and methodological issues.

Jordan, Valerie, Ph.D., (1982)

Professor of Psychology, received her Ph.D. in Psychology from the City University of New York in 1977. Her areas of specialization and research interests are psychotherapy, ethics, and gerontology. She is Co-Director of Clinical Training for the Psy.D program and oversees the pre-doctoral internships. She is a licensed psychologist in private practice specializing in families, adults, and the elderly.

Kernes, Jerry L., Ph.D., (2004)

Associate Professor of Psychology, received his M.C. in Counseling from Arizona State University in 1998, and his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Arizona State University in 2001. He is Co-Director of Clinical Training for the Psy.D program and oversees the practicum placements. His areas of interest include values, meaning-in-life, moral development and decision-making, and positive psychology. He is a licensed psychologist.

Liang, Christopher T. H., (2005)

Assistant Professor of Psychology, received his M.A. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Maryland, College Park in 2000 and in 2005 he received his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Maryland, College Park. His areas of specialization and research interest include racism-related stress and psychological outcomes, culturally-based family conflict among Asian Americans, issues regarding masculinity, and feminist and multicultural approaches to counseling.

Long, Patricia, J., (2005)

Associate Professor of Psychology and Program Chair, Masters in Counseling Program, received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Georgia in 1992. Her areas of interest are the role of cultural factors and expectations in the perpetration of sexual assault, rape prevention, mental health issues in survivors of sexual victimization (childhood sexual abuse & rape), possible mediators of the relationship between sexual victimization and adjustment, and trauma and victimization. Additional areas of interest are the psychology of women, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and research resign.

Rogers, Richard R., Ph.D., (2001)

Associate Professor of Psychology and Director of the University Counseling Center, received his B.A. and M.C. (Masters of Counseling), from Arizona State University, and Ph.D. in Counseling and Guidance from the University of Arizona in 1986. He has been teaching part-time at ULV since 1988, and has been the director of the ULV Counseling Center since 1999. His areas of specialization and research include male sexual dysfunction, stress and coping, cognitive therapy, group psychotherapy, supervision and training and adult children of alcoholics. He is a licensed psychologist.

Scott, Raymond L., Ph.D., (2001)

Associate Professor of Psychology, Program Chair, Psy.D. Clinical-Community Psychology Program, received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology in 1996 from the University of Tulsa. His areas of clinical concentration and research interests include diversity and multicultural competence, HIV disease and health disparities, spirituality and psychotherapy, and gender, sexuality and critical theory. He is also a Health Disparities Scholar for the National Institutes of Health. He is a licensed psychologist.
