The MFT program has been training graduate students since 1973 to meet the human service needs of families in a changing world. The theoretical foundation for the MFT program is general family systems theory, with an emphasis on diversity. Students are exposed to a range of theoretical orientations that reflect multiple, yet diverse, perspectives. Didactic and experiential program components are combined to provide a broad theoretical foundation for possible doctoral study and substantial counseling experience for the future practitioner. The MFT program meets all current Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) academic requirements for Marriage and Family Therapist licensure in California, as well as the academic requirements for California community college counseling and instructor positions. Graduates of the program typically pursue careers as MFTs in community mental health and social service agencies, school-based counseling programs, residential treatment facilities, hospital settings, private practice, and community college settings. |
The CCSS program has been training graduate students since 1997. The program, with an emphasis on diversity/multiculturalism, is designed to familiarize students with the role and functions of student affairs work in higher education. Students are exposed to theory within the field of Student Development. Didactic and experiential program components are combined to provide a broad theoretical foundation for possible doctoral study and substantial experience for students electing to go straight into college counseling and student services careers. The CCSS program prepares students for careers in colleges and universities as academic, career, and student services counselors. Completion of this program fulfills the academic requirements for California community college instructor, administrator, and counseling positions. The CCSS program does not fulfill the academic requirements of the Board of Behavioral Sciences for licensure in California as a Marriage & Family Therapist. |
