Departmental Honors
Departmental honors are granted to undergraduates students who demonstrate a high level of achievement in their majors. Students are encouraged to work toward departmental honors. Applications are available from either the undergraduate program's administrative assistant in Suite 100 of the Hoover Building, or from academic advisors. Applications must be returned at least
2 months prior to graduation (November 30- Winter Commencement; March 31-Spring Commencement).
Those receiving departmental honors will have this distinction noted on official transcripts and on the commencement programs.
These requirements include:
- A 3.0 overall GPA (both ULV and transfer courses)
- A 3.6 grade point average in the major area (with a minimum of 8 courses taken in the major at the University of La Verne)
- All major courses, with the exception of challenges, must be taken for letter grades.
- A high-quality senior project as attested by the Senior Project Instructor
- Two recommendation forms signed by faculty on integrity, scholarship, and promise of student

Psi Chi National Honor Society
Purpose Statement
Psi Chi is a national honor's society whose purpose shall be to encourage, stimulate, and maintain excellence in scholarship of the individual members in all fields, particularly in psychology, and to advance the science of psychology.
Mission Statement
The mission of Psi Chi is to produce a well-educated, ethical, and socially responsible member committed to contributing to the science and profession of psychology and to society in general.
Subends for accomplishing above mission:
- Advance science and the profession of psychology
- Promote an educational experience consistent with the mission
- Promote ethical and socially responsible members and leaders
- Define and establish an organizational structure that promotes our mission
