Frequently Asked Questions
-
What does ULV recycle?
ULV recycles any type of common recyclable goods, such as paper, plastic, aluminum and cardboard. Only cardboard is collected separately. All other recycled goods are collected in the large 32-gallon blue totes on campus or in the small desk side recycle bins located in every office on campus.
-
What types of paper can be recycled?
All kinds of paper may be recycled. Eg. White, colored, glossy, envelopes with plastic windows, magazines and newspaper.
-
Can I recycle books?
Because books have bindings, they cannot be recycled through the regular recycle program; however, most bulk orders can be recycled by contacting the Facilities Management Department.
-
Where do I put paper that is to be recycled?
Most classrooms have large blue recycling bins in or near them. These bins are designated to collect any type of recycled good other than cardboard. In addition, each office at ULV has a small paper recycling container as well as a small trash can. If you are unable to locate a recycle bin, simply contact Facilities Management for information.

Where do I put cardboard to be recycled?
Cardboard may be placed adjacent to any paper recycle bin or trash can. It is collected by ULV contractors and deposited in the appropriate locations.

Why doesn't ULV separate plastic or aluminum?
Studies of the ULV waste stream clearly show that only trace amounts of plastic and aluminum are collected. It is not cost effective to spend time and resources in an effort to separate these items.

No. Styrofoam is currently not a recyclable commodity.

Will ULV accept recycled goods from outside the university?
ULV will usually accept outside recyclables with prior authorization from the Facilities Management Department.
