University Property & Personal Property
Purchasing is responsible for the inventory and identification of all furniture and equipment. Purchasing must be notified in writing of any relocation or disposal of furniture or equipment. University property may not be removed from campus for personal use.
The University is not responsible for the loss or damage of personal property.
If personal property is used or stored on campus, maintain a current inventory of the property and assure it is covered under one's personal home owners or other relevant insurance.
Taking the following precautions can protect University property and personal belongings:
- Make sure that all newly acquired University property is listed on the official University Inventory and labeled with a ULV identification number.
- Engrave personal valuables with an ID number.
- Keep valuables in a safe place. Make a list of valuables for future reference.
- Make sure that office equipment is theft-proof by securely fastening it to a proper surface.
- Lock doors when absent.
- Make sure all windows are secured.
- Do not leave purses, books, calculators, office equipment or other valuable items unattended without first securing the area.
- Maintain the integrity of keys ownership. Do not loan keys or leave them unattended. Report all missing keys to Campus Safety. University property keys may not be duplicated by anyone other than Facilities Management.
- Report any suspicious activity to Campus Safety.
Theft or Accidental Damage of University Property
- Report theft/damage of University property to Campus Safety (ext. 4950) immediately.
- Do not disturb area until notified by Campus Safety that it is alright to do so.
- Notify Risk Management (extension 4516) of the incident and provide an inventory of stolen/damaged property including, when applicable:
- Serial number
- Make and/or model
- Manufacturer
- Replacement cost
- Campus Safety will provide a copy of the incident report to Risk Management.
- Risk Management will notify the insurance broker of the theft/damage.
- Department owning property will be responsible for the replacement of the property up to the amount of the insurance deductible.
