Clubs and Organizations
Learning Outcome Planning Objectives
A Program of the Office of Student Life
Objective 1: Students will develop positive relationships with University of La Verne staff through advising and administration of their individual club or organization.
Rationale:
- Clubs and organizations, a program of the Office of Student Life, supports students who want to become active and get to know others who are interested in similar types of co-curricular activities. Clubs and organizations offer students a chance to network with faculty, staff, classmates and community members who have similar interests and experiences.
Measures:
- At the end of each semester a survey will go out to key staff on campus asking; if they have had an interactions with members of club and organizations, which club and organization were the members affiliated with, in what capacity did the member seek out the staff member, and was this a positive interaction. Our office will also survey the students asking which staff members that have had interactions with and in what capacity did the member seek out the staff member, and was this a positive interaction.
Objective 2: Through their individual club or organization, students will develop and enhance their individual leadership skills and abilities.
Rationale:
- The Office of Student Life supports clubs and organizations by providing leadership resources and training to all participants. By being an active member of a club or organization, students will gain valuable leadership skills that will help transition them into the workforce.
Measures:
- At the start of each semester the Office of Student Life will conduct mandatory leadership training for the executive board members of each club. At the end of the training students will be asked what they have learned from the training. At the end of each semester they will be surveyed to find out how the training prepared them for their role in their club or organization, as well as how they feel they have grown or changed as a leader from the start of the semester.
Objective 3: Students will learn to recruit, train and maintain volunteer participation within their organization.
Rationale:
- Clubs and organizations survive year-to-year based on the member participation. While the Office of Student Life supports the program we can only provide the resources to the members on how to recruit, train and maintain volunteer participation, it is sole responsibility of each and every member to maintain membership for the club.
Measures:
- The Office of Student Life will conduct a workshop on how to recruit, train and maintain volunteer participation at the start of each semester for the executive board members for each club and others who want to participate. After the workshop clubs will be asked to come up with two new strategies on how they plan to recruit, train and maintain volunteer participation.
