Introduction
The students, faculty, and administration of the University of La Verne have come together to form an academic community where learning can be enhanced. It is the belief of ULV that the behavior of community members must be guided not only by the civil and criminal laws of the land, but also by standards and expectations which serve to support and promote the values the University has come to stand for and believes to be of importance.
The University of La Verne community is made up of a unique combination of faculty, staff, and students on the central campus in La Verne and many extension campuses. Given this diversity within the University community, it is inevitable that there will be misunderstanding and miscommunication between the community members. The policies and rules adopted by the University of La Verne exist specifically for three reasons: (1) to safeguard the rights of the individual community members, (2) to protect and advance the growth of the entire campus community, and (3) to encourage the intellectual and personal growth of community members, especially those involved in disciplinary infractions.
When students enroll at ULV, they voluntarily choose to associate with the University. When they become members of the academic community, they are granted certain rights, and they also take on certain responsibilities. These responsibilities may involve the limitation of some individual freedoms for the common good of the entire community. Every student has responsibility for maintaining the standards of the ULV community and for protecting the rights of other members of this community.
