The judicial process at ULV has four forms of judicial review bodies.
For resident students only:
For resident and non-resident students:
SLCC, advised by the Director of Housing and Residential Life, is a peer level disciplinary board made up of selected members from each Residence Hall, a commuter student, and an ASF representative. SLCC provides a peer level vehicle by which problems arising with an individual, two or more students, or groups in violation of University policy or behavior standards may be resolved. The SLCC deals with disciplinary situations such as first time alcohol violations, theft, noise, etc. Depending on the incident, the SLCC may deal with policy violations such as assault, sexual harassment, etc.
The SLCC will determine appropriate actions or sanctions to be applied to the student(s) in violation after a hearing is granted to the student(s). Students who fail to comply with the SLCC, or have repeated violations of University policy, will be referred to the Associated Dean of Student Affairs for additional action or referral to the Judicial Board.
The Judicial Board, advised by the Associate Dean of Student Affairs, is made up of two faculty members, the Area or Program Coordinator from Housing and Residential Life, Director of Campus Safety, and an ASF representative. The faculty members will serve for a two year term on the Board. The student member is chosen by the Associated Students Forum each year. The Area and Program Coordinator will alternate serving on the board and will not serve in situations that involve a resident from their living area in order to avoid a conflict of interest.
The Judicial Board handles situations which create a threat to the safety of the members of the campus community, or repeated violations of University policy.
Students admitting responsibility for the policy violation will have a hearing before one administrator. Students involved in incidents which place a direct threat to the well-being of the campus community, particularly a physical threat, may have action taken immediately by the Associate Dean of Student Affairs or the Dean of Student Affairs without a formal hearing being granted to the student in question. In addition, the administrator responsible for the review may choose to conduct a mediation session with the students involved in the incident if deemed appropriate.
