The philosophy here is dedication and education, providing method to madness, to work hard and play hard. You are not here to serve the program; it is here to serve you. However, we have not, cannot, and will not make guarantees. We thrive under a meritocracy. There is no such thing as "seniority" here. The only thing we can provide is the right amount of forensic training and the privilege of trying out for team slots. Try-outs for representing our program are the heaviest competition that you will face, speaking among some of the best in the nation to compete against the very best in the world. It is possible that a person will be a part of our program, but never represent it outside the campus. That part is left up to you. But remember, you are a ULV student first, a ULV forensics competitor second. So come here for the school, not the program.
Academic
If you do come here for the program, we have much to offer you. We are pleased to award deserving students Performance Scholarships up to the maximum amount allowed by university policy. Seven students are awarded the TOP LEVEL scholarship, another seven are awarded the MIDDLE LEVEL and yet another seven are awarded the BASIC LEVEL. These are granted on the basis of talent, industry, and level of commitment.
Competition
In the past few years, we've traveled to England, Australia, Scotland, Canada, South Africa, Singapore, Malaysia, and Ireland, and who knows where else in the near future. We regularly compete against Oxford, Cambridge, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, Harvard, Sydney, Glasgow, Melbourne, Monash, Ateneo de Manila, University College Dublin, etc.
In 2000 and 2001, we were the top-ranked team at the World Universities Debating Championships from this hemisphere. Each year, we are committed to sending our top teams to the Oxford International Intervarsity Championships and the World Championships.
