Baseline Data
Transportation
The
task force is working with the ULV Rideshare program to assess carpooling
numbers on campus, and to help promote the Rideshare program.
The Sustainable Campus Task Force reminds you to use
alternative transportation!
The campus is small—there’s no need to drive your car to class or the dining
hall, or even to Old Town. It uses up your gas, and you’re not guaranteed a
parking place when you get there. Do yourself a favor: walk or ride your bike
instead!

Ride your bike!
Take a walk!
Riding and walking burn more calories than driving, helping you stay fit.
And, when you walk or bike, you save yourself gas money, not to mention all the
pollution automobiles add to our air!
Calories burned per activity (for an average person)
Walking: 89 cal/mile
Running: 110 cal/mile
Cycling: 23 cal/mile
Driving: 11 cal in 5 minutes
Carpool!
ULV Rideshare program
Carpooling saves time and money, and reduces pollution.
Driving is not efficient; when you drive alone, only 5% of the energy used moves
the you– the rest moves the car. So the more people you carry, the more
efficient the trip is!
And remember, when you carpool, you get to use the diamond lanes!
For more information on carpooling rewards and incentives, see the Rideshare
website.
Use public transportation!
Sit back and let someone else do the driving for once! ULV is close to both
bus and train stops. Foothill Transit runs buses down Bonita Avenue, and the
Metrolink Train Station is less than a mile away.
Foothill Transit
route
492 runs along Bonita Avenue and connects to many other lines. Call
1-800-RIDE-INFO or visit
www.foothilltranist.org to plan a trip.
Metrolink
can take you to Ontario airport, downtown LA, and can connect
you to Universal Studios and Hollywood via subway. Trains run 7 days a week.
Station is at 205 Santa Fe Street. Visit
www.metrolinktrains.com for more
information and to plan a trip.
