Water Usage by Building:
2001 |
2002
Baseline Data
Water Use
The summary chart details water use for the entire campus, meter by meter from
May 2001 to January 2003. One of the major questions this data has highlighted
is what exactly do the meters meter? Some combine buildings an landscaping
irrigation, so at this point there is no way to easily compare use by area for
each building or landscape area, as we did with electricity use by square foot.
The data comes from City of La Verne water bills. The city bills in cycles of
about 60 days. The city tracks water consumption by 1000-gallon “units,” and
delineates how many days the billing cycle covers. Dividing the units by the
number of days and multiplying by 1000 shows Average Water Use per Day in
gallons.
Total consumption for each year was determined by adding all units used for the
year. The totals for the two years are not comparable because data was only
calculated for 2001 from May until December, whereas for 2002 the data was
calculated for the entire year.
For the entire campus from May to December 2001,
The Total Water use was 18,455,000 gallons.
The Average Water Use per Day was 2007.07 gallons.
For the entire campus form January through December 2002,
The Total Water use was 34,507,000 gallons.
The Average Water Use per Day in 2001 was 2610.85 gallons.
Compiling all the billing data shows water consumption from May 2001 through
December 2002 (billed in January 2003). Average use per day was figured
by dividing total use for both years by total days billed for both years
(multiplied by 1000 to convert “units” to gallons).
For the entire campus from May 2001 through December 2002,
The Total Water use was 36,514,000 gallons.
The Average Water Use per Day was 2505.68 gallons.
