Directing Emphasis
All students take a directing studio, usually in the spring semester of their junior or senior year. THAR 355 Directing Studio I requires all theatre majors to direct and produce two one-act plays in a single semester.

March one-acts are produced with minimal sets and technical support and are under fifteen minutes in length. With the second round of one-acts in May, directors collaborate with Intro to Design students who help design sets, lights and costumes.

Students in the directing track will need to declare their intentions early so they can plan to take their directing studio in their sophomore year. Only exceptional directing majors may be allowed to take a directing studio in their first year.

To round out the emphasis, the directing major will take THAR 455 Directing Studio II, Independent Studies and may be given the opportunity to direct a main stage production during their senior year.
