| At ULV all majors must complete a senior project that includes a performance or recital.
Each year we have writers, directors, designers and performers mounting their projects. Often two or more students will collaborate in these areas on the same project. We firmly believe that each senior should have the opportunity to do more than just a paper project; the culminating work of an undergraduate degree should have a performance attached to it. |

Seniors will submit a project proposal to the department as if they are submitting a proposal to the NEA for a grant. This rigorous process is essential if the students are to become self-sufficient theatre artists. The senior becomes the producer of their project in addition to whatever their chosen role is (acting, designing, directing, writing). Each senior will be given a faculty mentor for their project who will oversee their work and challenge them to push their work further. The mentor does not manipulate the project in order to improve its chances of success, but merely acts as a guide along the way. On this culminating project the students themselves are expected to rise to the challenge in order to meet all the demands of building a show from first planning to getting full houses to strike and post-mortem analysis. |
