Graduation Requirements

To receive a bachelor's degree from ULV, a student must complete the following:

  1. A declared major (Criminology, Public Administration or Organizational Management)
  2. The University's general education requirements

    General Education reflects a university's identity. Consequently, ULV's general education requirements aim at fulfilling two primary objectives:

    • to communicate the guiding principles of the University as expressed in its Mission Statement (values orientation, community & diversity, lifelong learning, and community service), and
    • to expose students to the traditional liberal arts fields of study.
  3. General Electives (Listed Below), and
  4. Meet the following unit requirements:
    1. a minimum of 128 semester units is required to graduate with a Bachelor's degree
    2. a minimum of 32 semester hours must be completed at ULV to fulfill the residency requirement
    3. a minimum of 44 semester hours at the upper-division level, including a minimum of 24 in the major and 6 in general education. At least 16 semester hours at the upper division level in the major and 6 in general education must be taken at ULV

General Education

ULV's General Education requirements are composed of Area Requirements and Core Requirements

To fulfill the General Education Area requirements, students must complete the areas of English Language Skills, Fine Arts, Humanities, Mathematics, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences.

English Language Skills ULV's Online Courses
One course from each area:  
a) English Composition I ENG 110
b) English Composition II * ENG 111 or MGMT 480
c) Spoken English SPCM 100
Fine Arts ULV's Online Courses
One course from either area:  
a) Appreciation of Art, Music, Film or Theater HUM 290, MUS 100, MUS 101 or THAR 360
b) Fine Arts Experiential course (minimum of 2 semester units) ENG 312
Humanities ULV's Online Courses
Two courses from two different areas:  
a) Literature  
b) Philosophy or Religion * MGMT 333 or PADM 333
c) Mass Media  
d) Interdisciplinary Humanities HUM 290
Mathematics ULV's Online Courses
One of the following courses:  
a) College-level Algebra  
b) Calculus  
c) Statistics * MGMT 388, PADM 388, SOC 305
Natural Sciences ULV's Online Courses
One course from each area, one course must include a lab  
a) Life Science BIOL 101
b) Physical Science CHEM 103
Social Sciences ULV's Online Courses
Two courses from two different areas:  
a) Behavioral Science PSY 407 or ANTH 330
b) History or Political Science HIST 110 or PLSC 301
c) Economics ECBU 410
d)Interdisciplinary Social Science 

General Education Core Requirements

1) Values and Critical Thinking (CORE 300)

2) International/Intercultural Core

One of the following:

  1. World Civilization and Cultures *
  2. Second semester of a foreign language

3) Interdisciplinary Core
(required if transferring fewer than 32 semester units)

One of the following courses:

  1. CORE 320 The Human Condition
  2. CORE 340 Toward a Sustainable Planet

The General Education Core Requirements are dependent on the number of transfer units accepted by ULV at the time of admission. All students must complete #1 and #2, #3 is dependant on the number of transfer units.

*This requirement is typically met by a course in the major.

** Note, one course may be applied to only one GE requirement. Example, HUM 290 can be applied to either Fine Arts or Humanities but not both.
