MGMT 300: Management Practicum

Course Description:

This course is a core course for the Bachelor degree. It is designed to demonstrate, through multiple forms of learning the concepts, principles and practice within organizations of organizational theory, behavior, communications, decision -making, understanding diversity, planning, motivation, leadership, change, group behaviors, teams and specific management innovations.

INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP ACTIVITIES:

During the course, you will participate in both individual and group activities. Each week, you will be given assignments relating to the respective weekÕs readings. You must have read the materials to be able to participate in these and all other activities. Students will individually complete most of these and there will be occasions when I will ask you to share your individual responses and or reflections with the class using discussion forums.

Discussion Forum

Several times during the semester, you will be asked to enter the Discussion Board and participate in Discussion Forums.

Assignment: Chapter Questions

At the end of each chapter are questions you will need to respond to. These are short essay type responses that require integration of the readings, any other sources and/or experiences associated with the concepts discussed.

Current Issues Assignment Ñ article summaries & analyzes

Each student is to complete two (2) current issues summaries and analyzes (2 pages). Articles can be selected from Los Angeles Times, Business Week, Wall Street Journal, Fortune, Harvard Business Review or similar business oriented publications. The event must have happened within the last year and be relevant to the material presented in the course. You must relate the article to at least one concept that we have discussed in class.

Quizzes

There will be quizzes related to the readings assigned for the respective sessions. Students will have access to the quizzes and these must be completed on a timely basis. Students will have one week to complete each quiz (up to the day of the next session). The quizzes include both multiple choices and essay type questions.
