With the design development phase of the Campus Center planning moving toward conclusion, the scope of the Campus Center Project has been expanded in order to accommodate replacement of the Old Gym. Adjusted cost estimates for the three-part project total $26.1 million.
Toward this goal, Trustee Michael Abraham and his wife, Sara - lead donors for the Sara & Michael Abraham Campus Center - have offered to match new gifts to the Campus Center dollar-for-dollar up to $2.5 million. Michael Abraham told the Board of Trustees they have done an extraordinary job in securing $20 million in commitments to date for the Campus Center Project.
According to Abraham, as the project's scope expanded he and Sara recognized the additional need in order to assure that this will be the premier project they envisioned.
"So Sara and I have decided that, in addition to our earlier pledge, we will match new gifts to the Campus Center dollar-for dollar up to $2.5 million," Abraham said. "We hope others will join us and respond to our offer."
Chairman Ben Harris expressed gratitude on behalf of the entire board for the Abrahams' inspired matching gift.
"Mike's earlier challenge led to the largest cash commitments from individuals in the university's history. It had a unparalleled influence on the campaign," Harris said. "New donors will now have the opportunity to double the impact of their gifts because each will be matched by Sara and Mike Abraham. In addition, I anticipate those of us who have already contributed will dig deeper into our pockets in a determined effort to make this project a reality."
