PROGRAM CHAIRPERSON:

Zandra Wagoner
Zandra Wagoner is Associate Professor of Religion and is currently the chairperson for the Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies program. She is also part of the planning committee for ULV's annual Engendering Diversity and Community Conference. Her areas of scholarship include women in religion, feminist theology, and feminist and queer theories. More recently, she has turned her attention to animal studies, exploring the tragic and tender connections between human and non-human animals, and the role religion plays at this intersection. Dr. Wagoner is currently on the Board of the Brethren/Mennonite Council for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Interests, a national organization working for gender and sexual justice within religious communities and society. She has also worked closely with the Church of the Brethren Womaen's Caucus, a feminist organization addressing gender discrimination in religious contexts. She also serves as an advisor for the WGSS Minor.

- Bailey Smith
Bailey is the Director of the Learning Enhancement Center at the University of La Verne, providing academic support for main campus and off-campus students. She has served as President of the California chapter of the College Reading and Learning Association, and is also a member of the California chapter's political action committee. At ULV, Bailey serves on several committees, including the Coalition for Diversity and the Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies task force; she was involved with the Curriculum subcommittee for WGSS. She is also co-chair of the Growing with Diversity committee as well as a mentor for the First Generation Student Success Program. Before her arrival at ULV, Bailey was a teacher and administrator in alternative and adult education programs. She has a Master's Degree in Multicultural Education from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a Bachelor's in Sociology from UC Santa Cruz (home of the Banana Slugs).

Gabriela Capraroiu
Gabriela was born and raised in Bucharest, Romania. She lived in Quito, Ecuador for many years after earning her BA in English & Spanish Philology at the Univeristy of Bucharest. She earned her MA in Spanish at San Francisco State University and completed her Doctoral studies in Hispanic Languages and Literature at UCLA. -
Hector Delgado
Hector L. Delgado, Ph.D., is a professor of sociology and the author of New Immigrants, Old Unions: Organizing Undocumented Workers in Los Angeles. He chairs the Coalition for Diversity, and participated in the creation of the Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies program at ULV. His interests in gender focus principally on Men and Masculinities and more generally on the intersection of Gender, Race, and Class. Erin Gratz
Erin serves as the WGSS subject specialist for the library, and conducts library instruction classes related to Women's, Gender & Sexuality studies, and is also an advisor for the WGSS Program minor. -
Anita Hanawalt
Anita Hanawalt is a virtual professor teaching online music and women's studies courses for the University of La Verne, Glendale Community College, Troy University, and the University of Maryland University College. At ULV, she holds the rank of Senior Adjunct Professor, teaching SOC/ANTH 334, "Women's Experience in America" for ULV Online, and "Music of Women Composers and Performers" on campus for the WGSS Minor. She holds a Ph.D. in Music Cultures (with specializations in adult education, curriculum transformation, and women's studies) from Union Institute and University in Cincinnati, Ohio; a Master of Music degree in Organ Performance from Westminster Choir College in Princeton New Jersey; and a Bachelor of Arts degree in music from Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania.

Ann Hills
Dr. Ann Hills is an Associate Professor of Spanish and Chair of the Modern Languages Department. A California native, she earned her Bachelor's degree at CSU, Northridge, and her Masters' and Ph.D. at UCLA. She taught at UCLA, Occidental College, and Loyola Marymount before coming to ULV in 2001. Dr. Hills has always felt most at home in a multicultural environment and is passionate about issues of social justice. Her research and courses often deal with themes and representations of gender, race and sexuality within contemporary Latin American literature. Dr. Hills is a founding member and active participant of the Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies Committee, the WGSS Curriculum Committee, and the annual "Engendering Diversity and Community" Conference Committee. She is thrilled to witness the implementation of the WGSS Minor and to offer courses within the program. - Andrea Labinger
